Ryan Turney was born in New Braunfels, Texas, and began gymnastics at the age of 4. After moving to Denton in 2001, he joined Achievers Gymnastics at 7 years old, training here for the next seven years before transitioning to another gym as an athlete while continuing to coach at Achievers. A graduate of Denton High School in 2011, Ryan competed as a Level 10 gymnast for 5 years and in 2011 competed at the Junior Olympic Nationals before shifting to competitive cheer. He was part of a world championship winning cheer team in 2012 and later joined the Texas Tech Cheer Squad. While at Texas Tech, he coached at a local gym and had numerous state and regional champions, including one of the youngest national qualifiers in 2015.
Chandler Turney was born in Lewisville, Texas, and did gymnastics at Achievers in 1996 alongside her sister. She trained across multiple states as her family moved from Texas to Atlanta, Arizona, and eventually New Mexico before settling in Lovington, where her grandparents lived and her mother was raised. Chandler graduated from Lovington High School in 2011 and earned her degree in Radiology from Covenant School, working in the medical field for 10 years. She later shifted her focus to the gymnastics world and entrepreneurship, launching her online Christian boutique, Nine Ten Avenue, named in honor of her grandparents’ home where she was largely raised.
Chandler and Ryan met in 2012 while coaching at a local gym in Lubbock. Their shared love for the sport, their families, and traveling sparked a deep connection. The two were married on August 8, 2015, and have since traveled to 16 countries and over 20 states together sharing adventures both in and outside the gym.
In the summer of 2015, Ryan returned to Achievers as the Boys Program Director, growing the team from just 6 athletes to over 40 within five years, with multiple state, regional, and national titles along the way. While Ryan still enjoys coaching, both he and Chandler now focus on leading the entire Achievers program. In April 2023, they officially became the new owners of Achievers Gymnastics, carrying on the incredible legacy built by Frank and Johnna Kudlac.
Chandler and Ryan believe that gymnastics is about far more than physical strength and skill it’s about building confident, resilient, and goal driven individuals. “We want these kids to grow up and be successful in whatever they choose to pursue. Our goal is to teach them life lessons through gymnastics that will help them Achieve any dreams they have.”
